For me, the (western) New Year, with all its pesky resolutions and diets has always paled in comparison to Chinese New Year. If you've never celebrated a Chinese New Year, the closest comparison is Thanksgiving + Christmas. On the serious side, it's a time for family, tradition, and remembering ancestors. There's also plenty of food, lights, decoration and lucky red envelopes.
